Face recognition:How Does it Work?

Face recognition is somewhat similar to Speech Recognition and other biometric technologies such as fingerprint recognition, iris recognition, etc.

Facial recognition recognises your face based on your physiology.

How do Face Recognition Systems Work?

The facial recognition system follows 3 basic steps:

First, The camera captures your photo. Then, it measures variety of facial features called landmarks or nodal points. It captures many points such as distance between eyes, etc. Finally, through a mathematical formulae, a unique facial signature and compares these to the database of known faces.

Applications:

  • Various law enforcement agencies like the Police use face recognition to track and catch criminals.
